The Healing Power of Crystals

The first known reference to the healing power of crystals was discovered in Egypt. An ancient papyrus, dated from around 1600BC was unearthed, which gave clear directions for their medicinal use.

Archaeologists have since found further evidence from  excavated graves and barrows throughout Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa.  Beads, stone carvings, and jewelry made of amber, jet, turquoise, lapis, garnet, carnelian, quartz, and other stones have been found. It is believed that the carvings were probably amulets and talismans, used for protection and some were obviously relics of religious ceremonies.

The concept of healing with crystals, works on the basis of balancing the body's energy.

The various colors found in crystals and gemstones is created by specific frequencies of vibration. Our bodies also consist of energy, each of us vibrating at our own specific rate. We each have seven basic energy centers called chakras. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel or vortex, and refers to each of the seven energy centers of which our consciousness and energy system is composed.

Each of these chakra centers is associated with a specific part of our body and is represented by a color, which is linked with a specific purpose in our lives.

Root Chakra - Red - Survival
Spleen Chakra - Orange - Pleasure
Solar Plexus - Yellow - Power
Heart Chakra - Green - Love
Throat Chakra - Blue - Creative Expression
Third Eye Chakra - Indigo - Transcendence
Crown Chakra - Violet/White - Spirituality

These chakras, or energy centers, function like pumps or valves, regulating the flow of energy through our own personal energy system. We subconsciously open and close these valves when we think, feel emotion, and decide through which perceptual filter we will choose to experience the world around us.

The chakras are aspects of consciousness in the same way that the body's aura is an aspect of consciousness. The difference is that chakras are more dense than the auras, but not as dense as the physical body. Although they do interact with the physical body through two major channels. The endocrine system and the nervous system.

Each of the seven chakras is associated with one of the seven endocrine glands, and also with a group of nerves called a plexus. The chakras are associated with  particular parts of the body and with particular functions within the body, which are controlled by the plexus or the endocrine glands.

All of our senses, our perceptions, and all of the possible states of awareness we experience, can be divided into seven categories. And each category is associated with a particular chakra. The chakras represent not only particular parts of our physical body, but also particular parts of our consciousness.

Here is an example of restoring balance and harmony within a physical and conscious aspect of the body. If a person has everything they need in life, but is never satisfied and constantly worries about losing everything, that person's spleen chakra is most likely out of balance. Since the spleen chakra is associated with the color orange, they would need to bring orange energy into their auric field.

Here are some examples of orange crystals and gemstones, with a brief description of their healing properties.

Carnelian. Carnelian is good for stabilising energy in the home. It helps protect from envy, fear and rage and can be used to dispel apathy. It can help in the treatment of neuralgia, colds, gall & kidney stones and pollen allergies. It also aids disorders of the spine, spleen and pancreas.

Gold Topaz. Topaz can recharge energy levels. It enhances relaxation and feelings of peace and calm. It aids disorders of the liver, endocrine glands and the bladder.

Amber. Amber helps one to choose and also be chosen. It is said to bring good luck in battle, most likely because of it's protective qualities. It is said to cleanse its surroundings and helps to purify the mind, body and spirit. It can help alleviate diseases of the throat, kidneys and bladder.
