I'll explain what I do and how I make more money in a week than I did in a month working for my last employer, and for doing a lot less hours. I chose to start an online business because I was fed up being a wage slave. And because I didn't like being told what to do, by someone who thought they were in some way superior to me. Yes, I don't like having a boss. With this business, I'm the boss. I decide what I do and when and how I do it. Going it alone has proved to be the best decision I have ever made. It's such a great feeling. When I had a 'normal' job, I used to get up at 6.30am, get ready and take a 10-minute walk to the bus stop. There, I would queue for about 15 minutes until a bus, usually with standing room only, arrived to take me into town, which is where I worked. Because of rush-hour traffic, the bus journey would normally take around 50 minutes. I would then spend a further 10-minutes walking to my place of work. That's a total of 85 minutes. I'd finish work at 5.30pm, then walk to the bus stop and queue for a bus to take me home. The whole morning process would unfold in reverse, with another 85 minutes of my valuable time used up in travelling. That's 2 hours and 50 minutes of my precious life, wasted every day in travelling. During the course of a 5-day week that amounts to more than 14 hours. I don't know about you but I'd rather be doing something else with my valuable time. Something more positive or something more constructive. I wouldn't mind quite so much if I was getting paid for my 14 hours. Travelling to and from work everyday was a complete pain, not to mention the frustration of rushing around first thing in the morning, getting wet if it rained and sometimes missing my bus and turning in late. I used to hate being packed into a bus like a sardine in a can and paying extortionate fares for the privilege. I tried taking my car once, but with endless traffic jams and numerous road works to navigate, my journey took even longer. And then I had a real problem trying to find somewhere to park. All the car parks were full and I couldn't park on a meter as they are restricted to 2 hours maximum. When I did eventually find a space, it cost me nearly three times my bus fare, and I was late for work. Phew! Who needs it? I used to get home about 7pm feeling quite exhausted after a long, long day. I happen to think that 12 and a half hours is a long day. And I only got paid for 8 of those hours. Take control of your life by making as much money as you want... without any of the stress When you look at your daily life this way, as I did, you'll realise that almost half your life is given up to work. Worst of all though, is that half your life is given up to someone else. It's all for someone else's benefit. Let's face it. Companies only employ people so that they themselves can make money. Well am I glad I don't do that anymore. Can you relate to any of that? I'm sure you can. Or at least you know of someone that has to endure a similar or even worse experience. Well that was then and this is what I do now. On a typical day, I'll wake up around 9am and stroll into my 'office', which is a small back bedroom complete with desk, chair and my PC. I switch on my computer, check my emails to see how much money I've made, then I put the kettle on. I do love this business. Next... I'll have a leisurely breakfast, while I watch TV, sipping my second or even my third cup of coffee, and maybe sometime later I'll get dressed. I don't usually get dressed until around midday. Some days I don't even get dressed at all! I'll just sit around in my dressing gown. Why? Because I can. So, with the morning almost gone, I'll start to think about...work I'll pack the items I've sold that day and place them in a neat pile ready to take to the post office. Then I'll spend about 2 hours putting more items up for sale, answering emails and transferring cash from my PayPal account into my personal bank account. That's the best bit about running your own business. You can see instantly, how much money you're making. The only other thing I have to do, is decide how I'm going to spend it. My whole working day consists of about 3 to 4 hours work, if you can call it work. It's more like fun. There's never a day goes by that I don't fully enjoy what I'm doing. And the best part is, I make a lot more money now than I ever did by giving up my 12 and a half hours every day to someone else. And it's just so much fun. I started to take the whole idea of selling on eBay very seriously. But I wanted to make sure I got it right first time. I'm not one for playing around and making mistakes, although I must admit I did make quite a few when I first started. But they were mostly due to doing things the long way, and not necessarily the wrong way. I soon learned that it takes far too long to learn by your mistakes.
